Welcome! I'm currently in my third year of study at the University of Chicago pursuing a degree in Statistics with a Computer Science minor.
I'm interested in intersciplinary opportunities related to large-scale data analysis that will allow me to leverage my unique background.
This space is for me to share a little more about my past experiences and current projects.
Some of my other interests include pen & ink art, dance, and mystery novels. Check out some of my favorite reads of 2021: The Silent Patient (Alex Michaelides),
The Thursday Murder Club (Richard Osman), and
The Searcher (Tana French).
Most recently, I interned at Microsoft during the summer of 2021 within the Azure Virtual Desktop organization.
This opportunity allowed me to explore the area of Product Management for the first time, where I determined customer needs and developed technical project specs.
I also worked with several new technologies to my bring my feature to life on the Software Engineering side.
I look forward to sharing more about my individual project in the future!
UChicago Data Science Institute
During the summer of 2020, I participated in the UChicago Data Science Institute (DSI)'s summer lab program.
This unique experience allowed me to develop basic Data Science skills and explore theoretical computer science research in the area of manifold learning.
It also led to a year-long research position I held, supported by UChicago's College Research Fellowship.
In addition to my final presentation linked above, my contributions to the project can be found here.
I continued to work with the DSI as a mentor during the first iteration of the Data4All program
during the Spring of 2021. The goal of the program was to teach local high school students about Data Science and culminated in the development of their own research project.
Providing guidance and mentorship is incredibly rewarding, so this was
a super fun experience!
Others
I'm lucky to have participated in several other programs during my sophomore year that broadened my knowledge of the technology and financial industries, including:
I'm currently working as a Data Science course grader and have worked with the Statistics Department and TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health in the past.
I also serve as the Corporate Outreach Chair for compileHer, a campus organization dedicated to pursuing gender equity in tech, and as the Finance Chair for UChicago's Society of
Women+ in Math.
Another UChicago organization I've been involved with in the past is TechTeam. I competed in their 2021 Ideathon, a challenge to develop
an original idea for a technology that addresses a pressing civic issue. My team came up with FrontPage, a news aggregator intended to support local and independent journalism and curb political polarization.
Take a look at our project prototype, which won awards in the "Design" and "Fan Favorite" categories, below.
Over the summer of 2021, I volunteered for MIT's Educational Studies Program to teach high schoolers about "Problems in AI."
A friend and I designed the original course together, which gives an overview of the history of AI and its societal impact.
Feel free to check out the second lecture below, which draws heavily from Cathy O'Neil's Weapons of Math Destruction.
